Web Developer - Job Description

We are looking to recruit a creative, talented and enthusiastic Web Developer to join our growing IT business and work within our web and software development team.
 

The suitable candidate would be a professional and reliable individual, who is passionate about web development and is keen to gain an insight into working within a dynamic business with a supportive and friendly ethos. 

 

The role is responsible for designing, coding and modifying websites, from layout to function, adhering to all client's specifications and requests. We strive to create visually appealing sites that feature user-friendly design and clear navigation.

 

The ideal candidate would be skilled in developing high quality software (Strong PHP, Javascript, HTML5 and CSS3 development skills) and they would be confident in creating new websites using a modern, responsive stack and tooling.  We are looking for someone who is innovative and imaginative in their approach to designing and developing new websites and features. Candidates would also have great accuracy and attention to detail in their work.

 

Good communication and interpersonal skills are also key in this role, as you would be expected work constantly with colleagues during the development and completion of website projects. We are also looking for someone to maintain positive working relationships with our customers. As part of the role, you would liaise regularly with new and existing clients in person and via email/telephone, taking on board their feedback/requests regarding their website and using your initiative to respond and update them in a timely, professional and attentive manner.

 

Further responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining our current websites.
  • Triage and resolve reported bugs.
  • Design and develop mailshots for clients.

About you:

  • Experience developing web solutions in Drupal and PHP implementations in a LAMP environment
  • Experience building responsive websites using Drupal CMS, HTML/HTML5, CSS/CSS3, and JavaScript/jQuery
  • Knowledge of PHP, PHP files and theme functions, and knowledge of the Drupal theme layer
  • Experience working with e-commerce websites
  • Extremely fluent with HTML5 and CSS
  • Experience working with PHP, JavaScript, and jQuery
  • Experience designing and developing responsive design websites
  • Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.
  • Ability to understand CSS changes to have consistent style across platforms and browsers
  • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages
  • Through understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (e.g. Requirements, Design, Development, Testing) and exposure to Agile or iterative SDLCs.

Desirable background and skills for the role:

  • Degree in relevant discipline
  • Experience working with Drupal Commerce
  • Experience with Git
  • Experience with any front-end frameworks
  • Knowledge of CSS methodologies
  • Knowledge of web performance optimisation
  • Knowledge of SASS/LESS
  • Knowledge of build automation/task runners (Gulp, Grunt) a bonus
  • Experience working with Processwire or similar CMS a bonus

Final details:

Pay: Dependent on experience (to be discussed at interview)

Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm.

Holiday: 25 days per annum
